Horton Hears A @#$!?

Dr. Seuss rules! Unfortunately, his stories don't take place in the present. Could young readers identify with the stories? Don't sweat, Seuss, because Inside A Cartoonist's Mind exclusively presents a modernized Beginner Book:

Horton Hears A @#$!?

On Monday the eighth,
April 2013,
Horton the elephant was
Feeling very keen!
He left the jungle of Nool
And those animal dorks.
That's right, Horton the elephant
Was going to New York.
At first, Horton was happy,
That goes without a doubt.
All of a sudden, he heard some
Creep shout out loud:
"@#$!?"
"My word," Horton said. "That was a cuss sound."
Then Horton was nervous.
He yelled, "I want out!"
He took off for the subway.
He wanted to go back to Nool,
But the subway was filled with weird slobs
Who all drool!
It was cramped in that train,
And it moved pretty slow.
Horton was getting impatient.
"HOW FAST CAN THIS THING GO?!"
Horton got off at Queens.
He was really fed up,
Then a mugger went up to him,
And proclaimed, "Pay up!"
Horton stepped on the crook,
Who made a nice "SPLAT!"
The robber turned into mush,
And, well, that was that.
But Horton was guilty.
He said, "After all,
A mugger's a person,
No matter how small."
Then the elephant realized
How stupid what he just said was.
He heard a faint siren!
Guess what? It was the fuzz!
They were looking for Horton,
As he just murdered some dude.
Even if he was mugger,
Stomping on him was rude.
Horton fled for the jungle.
He then returned to Nool,
He really didn't care
If he was stuck with some fools
That like to talk to dust specks.
Now, Horton had
Realized: New York's still a city,
No matter how bad!
